Big changes!
Change 1: I’ve moved to Munich in southern Germany!
In isolation perhaps not the most groundbreaking news, but it signifies an important and exciting new chapter in my journey since 2022, when I left my home country South Africa to chase my passion for filmmaking, cars, photography, lifestyle, and motorsports.
For the past 3 years I’ve been based in northern Germany, in a small town just outside of Hannover. Reason for that: in the background I was actually employed at an agency specialising in motorsport. Them being based up north meant I began to feel hemmed in creatively by my environment. I needed a change. And Munich is the change. I’ve made meaningful connections and friendships this side of the country, which together with Munich’s proximity to the mountains, and the career and business opportunities it presents, it was a no brainer despite the cost - Munich aint cheap.
During my stint at the agency, when time and bosses allowed, I worked on some projects privately, slowly dabbling more and more in creative spaces beyond the racetrack. And with spending much of this year thinking hard about the future, I felt like I needed the next challenge, the next step - to push myself to my limits again and really give everything into my business. Which is change 2.
Change 2: Full-time Freelance!
While many of you may know me as being freelance, only now is that statement 100% true. And I couldn’t be more excited about it. I really need the freedom of deciding when, where and how I spend my creative energy, and hopefully that means exploring other industries through media production that I haven’t been able to before.
I want to continue producing work in areas I’m familiar with, especially racing (there’s some exciting racing projects in the pipeline for 2025), but I’m brimming with energy for something new too. Lifestyle, brand communication, sports, product, documentary, long-format are all fuelling me creatively in a way I haven’t experienced in a while. Watch this space.
So that’s the update. And if there’s one thing I’ve learnt throughout the process of figuring out what’s next is that only by walking through the open door can you really understand what is lurking on the other side. It’s too easy to fall into comfort and let the fear of the unknown overpower you. You’ve got to try. You never know…
Try really hard.
New apartment still a mess, but me feeling pretty chuffed about the new chapter.
